Specie alloctone invasive: i Paradoxornis della Palude Brabbia
passeriformi di origine asiatica orientale insediatisi a partire dal 1995 nei pressi della Riserva Naturale Regionale Palude Brabbia (VA) in seguito alla liberazione di circa 150 individui da parte di un commerciante di animali. Attualmente la popolazione in Lombardia è l’unica esistente al di fuori dell’areale originario ed è stimata in migliaia di esemplari.
E' ragionevole supporre che i soggetti introdotti in Italia provenissero da una singola località dalla provincia cinese dello Sichuan.

Passerines of East Asian origin who have settled since 1995 near the Palude Brabbia (VA) Regional Nature Reserve following the release of about 150 individuals
by an animal dealer.
Currently the population in Lombardy is the only one existing outside the original area and is estimated in thousands of specimens.
It is reasonable to suppose that the subjects introduced in Italy came from a single locality from the Chinese province of Sichuan.

Well over 7", tail slightly shorter. This thing was huge! As I approached it with the car, I thought it was a muskrat! but the tail was way too thin and short. (street line is not regular narrow lane divider but wider side lane separator and the picture shows the rat 45 degrees to the line)
Colour was brownish, not dark
Followed it in parking lot along Costco sidewalk, thinking WTF, then it went onto the street, I sped ahead and just managed to grab the camera for the low light as it disappeared under the truck, into the sewer openings I expect.
Odd how all the other rat pictures in Saskatchewan Manitoba were dead rats. This giant was alive and moving fast!
