I was amazed to find this Sierran Treefrog trying to make a meal of a juvenile Taricha.
When I flipped the log the newt was upside down and in the frog's mouth, but was soon let go. The frog's tongue stuck out for a few seconds afterwards, I'd like to think due to awesome tetrodotoxin.

Unknown spider that lives in a hole that is about 3/4 inch in diameter without a trapdoor. Hunts beetles at night and was seen clearing wood chips around its hole. Does anyone have an idea what type of spider this is?

It was in our garage and ended up in some water. We rescued it in a towel to get it dry and warm, then put it out near a gap in the house trim where we think the bats stay during the day. Nevertheless, it flew to a dense redwood tree. Hope it survives. It was shivering still.
