Quail hanging out in the Mexican Wolf enclosure.
Fun watching these herons fly and perch way up high in the trees.
Beautiful male cinnamon teal.
A male red-winged blackbird amidst some females. (I think. I don’t know the females well.)
The pair of gadwalls came closer this time, so pretty.
I think this is a pipit. Not that you would know it from the crowd— it was a good reminder that a) not everybody with fancy big lenses and gear actually knows the birds, and b) that doesn’t stop many folks from confidently telling you wrong IDs. Oh well.
At any rate they were a cute and curious bird. Colors like a sparrow, beak like a thrush, acted like a sandpiper or plover running around on the bank singly.
Very briefly saw this wren (I think), then a yellowthroat and some sparrows and the pipit took over that area.
Saw a couple yellowthroats in the brush / reeds.
Several pintails throughout.
Several gadwalls around.
A couple killdeer. It was really cute to watch it do the head pump up and down.
Thousands of cranes made teenage Tristan happy.
I think. Several of these poking along the banks.
