Nature Walk- Ants

It was August 12, 2022, I went outside with the rest of my class to walk around the school to look for birds, insects, and plants. The warmth of the sun beat down on my back and neck as I strolled across the cement flooring beneath my feet. On our walk, we passed the bushes that lined the walls of the school. We tasted the rosemary bushes; its minty taste melted on my tounge and smelled the floral scent of its leaves. A singular bus rumbled in the parking lot and the loud voice of my companion was on my side. We chatted about the birds

We trampled along on all types of flooring: dirt, cement, and sand as I hunted for those 4 different species. The first thing I spotted was a cowering spider. It was cornered by the foot of my many classmates and the school entrance. Second, I observed a roadrunner but it scampered away with its feet hitting on the cement with this clacking noise. The third species I noticed would be these two birds that seemed to flock together; I wonder if they were best friends of sorts. The two squaked at each other.

My favorite and the one I saved for last was these groups of ants. They were consuming what I thought was a grilled cheese sandwich. However, the cheese did not look melted. They worked as a group to devour the once food of humans. So as I stared at them I pondered how such animals live a fulfilling life in this wasteland.
