Rocky Mountain Elk

It was sunny that day; the sun beat down on our necks and beaded us with sweat. The guardians of our group heaved as we approached the car. We had been hiking for the past four hours and now we would return home after a five-hour drive. As we praised the cold air of my cousin’s rental, the car ignition started.
I twiddle with my phone going through various apps before stopping on the radio mainly circling around the Crane Wives; the smooth chorus voice of the singer soothed me into a daze-like state. Before abruptly being halted. My father slapped the junction between my knee and thigh to get my attention. He yelp, “Elk!” I fumbled for the phone that laid adrift in my hands and scrambled to get a photo of the Rocky Mountain Elks for my iNaturalist Project.
While doing my research, I learned that elks are commonly associated with traits like antlers and alternate colors of brown fur. They have other features like Tetrapoda (four-legged animal): long thin legs, and hooves.
I could easily find my species of elk by specifically searching for the elks at The Grand Canyon. It was the Rocky Mountain Elk, or its scientific name Cervus Elaphus Nelsoni. This made tracking down the other questions quite easy and had my work done in a matter of minutes. I could say that unlike most of the photos I saw of the other Mountain Elks; mine was very bright orange.
