Há alguns anos, encontrei os restos de uma pequena pupa transparente presa a uma planta em um quintal. Achei interessante a possibilidade de ela ser a planta hospedeira de uma borboleta incrível. Levei a planta para o meu quintal e plantei. Então descobri que a planta é Solanum diphyllum, Solanaceae. Alguns anos depois, encontrei as primeiras lagartas de Episcada hymenaea nesta planta. Tive a oportunidade de registrar o ciclo biológico desta espécie fantástica, que apresento aqui, agora.

A few years ago I found the remains of a small transparent pupa stuck to a plant in a backyard. I found it interesting the possibility of that being the host plant of some incredible butterfly. I took the plant to my backyard and planted it. Then I found out that the plant is Solanum diphyllum, Solanaceae. A few years later, I found the first Episcada hymenaea caterpillars on this plant. I had the opportunity to record the biological cycle of this fantastic species, which I present here, now.

I found in a Moquilea tomentosa tree what appeared to be a mealy bug eggs sack. I opened the eggs sack and some tiny, delicate pupae began to jump. I placed them in a ventilated container and, days later, small mosquitoes emerged from these pupae.
