Coprinoid fungi are a very important group of macrofungi and now it is currently divided into four new groups: Coprinus, Coprinopsis, Coprinellus, and Parasola. In the genus Coprinellus, there are approximately 80 species within the lineage of Psathyrellaceae. These mushrooms are common saprotrophs, meaning these organisms feeds on nonliving organic matter, detritus. New species are constantly being found, including 18 new coprinoid mushrooms which have been reported in Pakistan. Coprinellus are not poisonous itself, but the species produces the compound coprine, which interferes with alcohol detoxification processes.
