I may occasionally make identifications to species level, based on the current literature despite if a genus ID may be more foolproof. My rationale for using these speculative IDs is to enable researchers to efficiently retrieve locality data for the species being studied.

Rediscovery of the endemic isopod, Scyphacella arenicola in the State of Maryland after 120 years

Hello and welcome to my profile! I am a student passionate about genetics, ecology, behavior, and taxonomy with an emphasis on biogeography and understudied topics such as reproductive behavior, and arthropod spatial cognition. Through my hands-on research experiences in both field and laboratory settings, I have honed my skills in taxonomic photography, data collection, animal husbandry, species identification, and microscopy.

I am one of the 7 co-founders of the American Isopod and Myriapod Group (AIMG) and serve as the lead editor for its publications. Alongside managing and maintaining all of AIMG's social media accounts, I am dedicated to making this group better and supporting its mission.

In my free time, I am an active iNaturalist user with a focus on Isopoda. As one of the few active Isopoda curators, I take pleasure in helping to keep iNaturalist's taxonomic data up-to-date. Feel free to ping me for identification help.

I am driven by a love for science and a desire to make a positive impact on the world. All of my photos posted on iNaturalist are taken and edited by me unless otherwise stated, and I allow anyone to use my CC-BY photographs as long as they provide proper credit (Nathan Jones, not Blastcat please). Thank you for taking the time to learn more about my scientific pursuits!
