I live on San Juan Island in Washington State where I'm lucky to work as a land manager for a local government land conservation program. I was encouraged to join iNat by colleagues and have enjoyed learning details, occurrence, and distribution of species that I probably would not have had access to in other ways. Initially I was using iNat to document specific plants of interest but recently shifted to capturing whatever things catch my attention. Currently, my interest in natural history could be described as pondering the intersection of people and place in the context of time as I continue to find evidence of how intensively the islands were managed by Straits Salish people for thousands of years and worry over the implications population growth, development, and our current climate change dilemma.
