Hello and welcome to my profile! To start things off: no, I am not a scientist, I am not an expert in anything. I just like fish, and by looking at fish long enough (and, after about a year of ignorance, finding the energy to search the internet for help, since there are a LOT of species just looking at pictures won't help you with) I like to believe I've gotten pretty good at telling these fish apart. I am also perfectly fine with being messaged and @ under observations if you wish to ask me something, identify something, or explain the thought process behind my IDs, though don't expect some profound wisdom if the question is about anything outside the Red Sea.

Most of my IDs are centered around the Red Sea region, and the ones I make outside it are either observations with extremely broad community taxons or no initial identification at all, in which case I typically make "safe" guesses to narrow it down for experts to come across more easily. The few more narrow guesses out there are either taxa I am familiar with through the Red Sea, or taxa that are just particularly easy to ID for one reason or another (Zanclidae is probably the best example here. One extant species. Can't get that wrong.)

And this should go without saying but I am just a human and I make mistakes. Please never assume I am correct just because I gave you an ID. Compare and come to your own conclusions because trusting me blindly for any reason is a terrible idea. ALSO! Trying my best to learn from past mistakes so if you believe any of my IDs are wrong please spare a moment of your time to explain to me why, I'd greatly appreciate it!

For a long while I've been pouring my heart and soul into the Red Sea region on iNaturalist - primarily by identifying various observations but also by expanding the region's lifelist. And I have to say - thank you. Thank you all for all the observations, for all the help, all the guidance, all the understanding, the messages, and the kind words. Thank you for allowing me to do something I truly love.

P.S.: During my initial arrival I thoughtlessly echoed a lot of expert IDs without any thought put into it. Mea culpa, I am trying to fix my mistakes. I am slowly but surely removing old IDs that I am not sure about but it is taking a while.
