June Results and July Challenges

New month, new challenges! But first, here are the rest of our June results!

Invasive Species Week

We already announced this one, but just so all the June results are in the same place - @doreneng won for species and @jafu6 won for observations.

Pollinator Week

The challenge was to find creatures interacting with flowers. @lisabrundage was the winner of this challenge!

And now our overall winners for observations and species in June...

The Top June Observer is @jafu6 with 453 observations!

The Top June Species Finder is @doreneng with 62 species!

We will have two mini challenges for July. One is Our July Challenge will be during National Moth Week, July 20-28, 2024. I'll make another post when it's closer because there will likely be local events to share. The other mini challenge will coincide with the NYBG EcoQuest for the month.

TRACKING BEECH LEAF DISEASE - all month

The NYC EcoFlora Project has a challenge every month and this year, our Summer of Nature project is going to join in! Their July EcoQuest is "Tracking Beech Leaf Disease" and its goal is to "help NYBG document as many areas of BLD infestation in New York City as possible by July 31." There are only about 100 observation of BLD currently on iNat and scientists are interested in tracking the possible spread of this disease since it entered our region in 2018. Your observations can help monitor the spread! The project page isn't up year for this EcoQuest, but you can see a past one here.
