Diario del proyecto City Nature Challenge 2023: NorthEast PA

The results of the 2023 CNC are in:
We had 571 observations representing 269 species with 62 people submitting observations. These numbers are down from last year: we had 986 observations, 436 species and 45 people just from Lackawanna County. (If you include the same 7 counties, the numbers are 1183, 488, and 119).

To me it's no mystery why the numbers were down - the weather sucked this year. It was cold and wet and I, for one, did not spend nearly as much time outside this year as I did last year.

To prepare for the upcoming City Nature Challenge, everyone is invited to develop their iNaturalist skills in two free workshops to be held in April.

For each training session, we will begin with an overview of how to use the iNaturalist app and website to make observations for the City Nature Challenge. We will then go outside and practice making observations in a natural setting. And finally, we will go back inside and upload the observations. Think of the workshop as a self-guided hike with elements of nature photography and lots of knowledgeable naturalists on hand to help with ID. Plus you'll come away from the free event with a powerful new tool to organize your nature photos as well as getting help IDing any future observations you make.
