(Previously notyouraveragecatlady) Amateur naturalist and photographer for 25 years. Love flowers, ferns, fungi, rocks, lichen, insects, spiders, even the occasional vertebrate... so a generalist. I enjoy identifying, documenting and photographing them, and occasionally trying for decent pix. Biology major in college, which is the closest I've come to formal training, but have learned a lot over the years.
I rain-garden to control all the storm runoff from the entire street (not by choice) that should go into the storm drain but we don't have one of those so it goes onto my front garden. I used to photo-monitor a private reserve in the Pinckney Michigan area, and have now migrated to a project to document everything growing in a set of small plots to capture all stages of life and definitively ID them (even tiny seedlings), as few guides have good illustrations of beginning of life and end of life. I also periodically volunteer with the local green spaces conservation groups. I have catalogued the roughly 200 publicly-accessible green spaces in Washtenaw County and I'm working on documenting the flora in each. I'm particularly fond of "belly flowers," the ones so small you have to get down on your belly to see them.
My biggest project at the moment is involvement with organizing of the Ann Arbor/Washtenaw County 2020 City Nature Challenge.
