Sunday Field Trip - Uriarra Loop Walk 11am

On Sunday a few of us will be heading to Uriarra to do the Uriarra Loop and Shepherd's Lookout walk, and see what we can spot out there!

We will be following the walk instructions found here:https://australianhiker.com.au/trails/uriarra-loop-shepherds-lookout-act-9-1km/

Park at Shepherds Lookout Carpark on Stockdill Dr near Holt, and we'll meet at the lookout itself.

Walk will start at 11am and hopefully wrap up around 3pm (depending how much there is to see!)

Bring lunch and dress for potential rain. Remember masks are mandatory.

Rainy BioBlitz Weekend!

Hey everyone,

It's looking a bit rainy this weekend.

Here are some ideas to get the most of the BioBlitz without getting soaked.

Firstly, remember that you're #NeverHomeAlone and you might be able to spot bugs or spiders around the house! There is a cool project on iNaturalist documenting species we share our houses with: "Never Home Alone: The Wild Life of Homes · iNaturalist" https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/never-home-alone-the-wild-life-of-homes

Kick off with #5onFriday , aim to get at least 5 observations uploaded to iNaturalist on Friday. This can be in your yard or across the road, no need to go on a hike!

Saturday night is #MothNight , leave a porch light on for an hour or two or try setting up a night sheet. You will probably get some visitors despite the rain. Or maybe you'll see some slugs and snails! Join the project to share what you see: "Moth Night 2021 -A Great Southern Bioblitz Project · iNaturalist Australia" https://inaturalist.ala.org.au/projects/moth-night-2021-a-great-southern-bioblitz-project

On Sunday we are encouraged to #ShakeATree (put a sheet or white tray underneath and see what bugs fall out!). However if it's a bit wet to be shaking foliage, you could try grabbing a handful of soil or mulch from the garden and looking through it on a tray inside to see if you can spot worms, earwigs, slaters or other critters. Pop them back in the garden after their photoshoot.

Finally Monday is time to #ListenAndSee. Try uploading an audio recording of something you hear, maybe frogs are out after the rain or crickets are calling? Also try grabbing a pair of binoculars or a magnifying glass for a different perspective, and upload something you've never seen before!
