LPS Frontline workers

Hi Everyone,

For those of you interested in the story behind our citizen science project, LPS presentation in lorikeets, or for those who want to see wildlife veterinarians in action, please find a link below to a youtube video from RSPCA QLD on the disease:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bg0F486rjWU

One of the veterinarians in the video, Claude, has been a driving force behind LPS research. It is devastating to see the magnitude of lorikeets affected, but truly heartening to see the efforts made by wildlife veterinarians, vet nurses, and wildlife rehabilitators to rehabilitate and release these birds. I can definitely recommend this video as a must see for our members, as it gives you an understanding of the importance behind your iNaturalist contributions.

Speaking of members, I would like to welcome @clarey11 to the project. We look forward to seeing your observations.

Keep safe and Happy Rainbow Lorikeet spotting!

Hi all
I am the Environment Officer at Lockyer Valley Regional Council, i have just stubbled upon this Project, and have realised i need to record on this project from the Lockyer in future. I have taken 3 rainbow lorikeets to UQ Gatton Vet hospital this season, all unable to fly, lying in the prone position, some livelier than others, all with one or both eyes stuck shut and closed, i am assuming this is LPS? UQ has us sign a form that says we wont call to ask about the animals welfare, so i never hear back of course. 2019 in the Lockyer Valley we had some many Rainbow lorikeets dead under trees, this could well have been the terrible drought, lack of surface water, and heat we had then though. I picked up 7 under one tree in the middle of Gatton.
Cheers Martin
