Low Chaco dark morph.
Had watched the bear for about 10 minutes before it stumbled upon this elk fawn. Photo was taken moments after the discovery.
The fountain darter is federal list endangered species, but is locally abundant at the headwaters of the San Marcos River.
These frogs were calling in large numbers up and down this canyon after an afternoon rain.
A pair of Red-spotted Toads is calling in the background.
As a side note, I've always thought these things look and sounded like they belong in the genus Smilisca.
This Texas Toad was calling from a gravel lined parking area for fracking trucks. It had obviously previously been a temporary wetland that was destroyed to make a parking area.
