  • A pond-side water sample (retentate) was taken on 10/14/2023 using a 10µ dip net to enrich for microorganisms. Air temp 58F.

Stalked heliozoan (eukaryotic amoeboid). All 3 shells each contain 1 or 2 cysts (a survival response resulting from my refrigerating the water sample?); a living cell would have an irregular margin. The first image features the shells while the second features the connecting stalks. Perhaps the arrangement of the shells reflects a familial relationship, with the central shell representing the mother the other 2 shells, the daughters.

Green amoeboid (filled with endosymbiotic Zoochlorella). I think this taxon has a single nucleus (labeled in images), and this particular nucleus candidate seems to crave recognition, popping into view like a rising sun! Another specimen of this taxon was observed from this same water sample https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/188436229. I could not identify the nucleus in this latter specimen.
