The first of the year for me and sure psyched me up for this spring, I found three in total two right next to each other and this one in a bush a little ways from the others

I saw maybe 10 out there today, but got pictures of only four.

Pictures were awful but got lots of good looks with my eyes.
A group of 5 or 6 hanging out in the area. Pretty active on the surface.

Road toad! I was pretty bummed to not see any toads on the mountain, but I ran into this one on campus on the way back lol

Not well behaved, but nice colors at least!

First herp in China.
We were riding bikes and Zhenqi stopped and asked if I wanted to see a skink. Minute later saw this little guy.

1 inch long and absolutely adorable

Coiled like this on edge of road. Calmer than the other mamushis we saw.

Tiny little guy found in rain gutter in town. Still had egg tooth and "belly button"

Best guess on ID. Very large.

Found hiding in rock outcropping, facing west. It might have had a food bolus but hard to tell. Didn't want to bother it too much.

So. Many. Rattlesnakes.

Chill gopher. It went back into its hole after I released it and poked its head out.

Bighorn sheep horn? There were no bones around, nor the other horn. Size seemed about right, but totally wrong habitat; this was in flat desert. Maybe got washed down from the mountains?

Tiniest baby gecko I've ever seen

First desert iguana I've ever caught. Possibly the last too lol

Hiding at base of cat claw acacia. Had a spot that was in the sun (sun had just gone down)

Female. This was the third tortoise I spotted that day. There was a massive adult male seen about 15 meters away too.

Found out in the open.

I was about three feet away when it rattled. Scared me, but the snake was probably more scared lol. This was my lifer speck

Sunning itself on a rock

My lifer, actually. And my first snake of 2023 (finally). Would not hold still and I didn't have time to fuss and get good pictures :/

This was the first live tort I actually ever spotted myself. She was actually pretty brave and in good health condition. Had been munching on some plants before we found her.

Flipped under a large rock. Not loving the sunlight haha

Baby, very small. Weather was in the 50s and sunny.

Female. Found by radio telemetry. Relatively cool but sunny. There was a large male in a burrow nearby that came out while we were looking at the female, but he went back inside.

Male. Not sure why he had his head shoved into the ephedra plant haha. Found by radio telemetry.

She's on the rock in the middle. Adult. It had been raining lightly; she was probably looking for a drink. Didn't move a muscle the whole time we were looking at her.

Any one know what kind of salamander this is? The stripe down its back is something I haven’t seen before

Photogenic adult. Found on trail; last pic in situ

Neonate. Only saw one or two adults in the canyon but several neonates.

Several of these caterpillars on milkweed. Not too late in the year for these?

On the crawl, on the shady side of the butte

Looks like growing a new tail or something wrong with tail. Looked very plump.

Saw a clear snake track on the road (see last picture) and sure enough there was a good sized garter snake next to the creek.

Found on a trail at night in the Bruneau canyon

My lifer! Flipped under a log. Log had two scorpions under it too. Probably 60 F.
