Great Bowerbird, Chlamydera nuchalis, male, nuchal crest, near courtship display at opening of his bower
I and my friend Meredith Edgley O'Reilly were privileged to go snorkeling in the San Marcos River this morning with Stephen Ramirez, a dedicated local naturalist very familiar with the area.
I don't (yet) have a waterproof camera, so the only photos I took were after the fact from a bridge over the river. They show the amazing clarity of the water and the beautiful endangered Texas Wild Rice growing in it. It was an amazing experience to flow with the current and watch this flowing wild rice below us!
Taken while scouting the USGS Walburg Breeding Bird Survey route.
I believe that the fourth photo shows adult and juvenile red-headed woodpeckers?
Recently Fledged young still in nest tree. 4 young with 2 adults feeding.
Taken during the monthly Birding on Broadmeade group walk on Lake Creek Trail in Williamson County.
Very poor photos of our best bird of the morning, a female Golden-winged Warbler!
Only seen this squirrel once before, which was around this same time last year.
Taken on the 2019 Whooping Crane Festival's second Birds of Lamar bus tour. The weather was much nicer and there was no fog. We saw 14 Whooping Cranes. This was the only family group we found.
