Image 1: Pogonomyrmex bicolor worker. While I was photographing near the nest entrance, a worker (or two) would climb a grass stem and assume this 'defensive' posture. No ants from this nest made any attempt to bite or sting, however. Image 2: workers and part of the large amount of chaff surrounding this nest. Image 3: nest with chaff - unpainted portion of indicator stick is 1 foot, and red end points north. (DLQ Loc: 062)
