Lamprothamnium ? macropogon.
ID based on the key in Casanova, M.T. (2013). Lamprothamnium in Australia (Characeae, Charophyceae). Australian Systematic Botany 26(4), 268-290.
Growing in clear water, at a depth of 5-20 cm, predominantly on margin of the lake
Abundant, forming dense turf over large part of eastern and southern part of the lake.
Any suggestions for this rapidly growing water plant? Came from a muck sample from the duck pond. Looked like thick bladed grass to begin with. Has small orange bits on the stems.
This growing in our dam.Slowly taking it over .
In spring it must flower and the water turns blood red .
My wife was freaking out thinking something had got butchered there.
