Turkey-tail is a flat mushroom that grows on trees and rotting wood. Often mistaken for false turkey-tail, which has brighter colors compared to the true turkey-tails, which has colors ranging from white, to orange, to purple or dark gray.
Ants on common milkweed. Wondering what brought them there. I didn't notice any on it the night before.
Top ant suggestion was New York carpenter ant, but I think it looks more like silky field ant. The ants I saw were on a black locust tree. Edit: agreed with suggestion that they are true carpenter ants.
Trees with this kind of rust can cause fruiting trees nearby to loose their ability to grow fruit.
