Note black bill, crown and moustachial stripe; broad, white patch at rear of otherwise dark ear-coverts; white throat; olive-brown upperparts; whitish underparts and undertail coverts; black legs. This noisy individual sure made a lot of racket for a single bird!
Note yellow eyes & lores; long, heavy yellow bill; white forehead, crown and throat; broad black eyestripe that extends from above eye to back of crown; crest plumes; pale gray upper back and hindneck; blue-gray lower back and upperwings; deep orange legs (breeding).

A beautiful pair of mergansers chilling in the water. A goose watches them from the island.
This Mallard seemed to have gone through a lot. His speculum was missing and his left leg was backwards! He still had full control of it though, using his foot to scratch his head.
I didn't see him waddle or swim, he just stood there.
