This poor guy was deceased. Found on the road. Not sure if it was hit by a car or dropped by a bird. There are several marks that might be peck marks. When I rode my bike past a second time, it was gone. Assuming a scavenger hauled it off. It's difficult to see perspective by the photo, but it was a young snake.

Prairie Rattlesnake (Crotalus viridis viridis); Hayden Green Mountain Park, Lakewood, CO
I observed, photographed and video recorded these two C. o. helleri copulating at approximately 11:00 A.M. yesterday morning. I am fairly certain these are the same individuals I observed in the exact same location in spring 2023. At that time I suspected they were a mated pair as I saw them at the same location on 3 successive visits to this spot. I will add the observation number(s) for those previous observations via an update to this note. I seem unable to upload the video as it was taken with my DSLR camera and not with my cell phone. Edit: The 2023 observation was: Observation 169102870 from 6/23/23. On 6/24/23, I observed the same two individuals together. see Observation 171076083.
