One of the little visitors to the tree outside of my window.
Seen along road to Sierra Recreation Area
Observed in a small canyon immediately east of a dispersed camping area on FR 108. Two individuals seen, only one photographed. Identified by me as N. canipes based on pelage characteristics that were more apparent in person than in these photos.
big beefy squirrel
elevation 6146 ft.
White-tailed antelope squirrel
Ponderosa twigs chewed off and bark eaten
Dead on road leading to Sierra Recreation Area. Removed from the road. Pelage characteristics led to identification of N. canipes.
Observed at a campsite off FR 107 in Tanbark Canyon. Identified as N. canipes based on pelage characteristics despite relatively small size for the species and overall darker/dingier coloration. I have observed several other N. canipes in and around this campsite during the summer. This is believed to be a juvenile. A relatively large wound was observed on the left side of the chipmunk but it did not appear fresh and seemed to be healing.
