Seen in the evening during the summer while still light out. I took these pictures with my camera from inside upstairs! The fox pooped (I’m assuming to mark territory) and continued to scatter off into the blackberry bushes. The next day this fox attacked my neighbor’s cat! Apparently there is a female fox in the blackberry bushes here who has kits, and this may be her.

Maybe one of my favorite thistles I’ve seen. Pleasant scent, and more or less soft to the touch. Incredible leaf & stem color.
This is the first 'eDNA Initiative' project soil sample being posted.
It will be analyzed for fungi at least. It may contain many different species (>100). Not sure how that will work. . . . Not sure what to call it.
Location:
Small copse of Douglas Fir trees with mostly Tanoak below and above area. Other tree species within 30 meters of the site: Big Leaf Maple, Red Alder, California Bay Laurel.
Nearby plants:
Poison Oak, Sword Ferns.
Terrain:
Old compacted site cut from logging Pre 1960's. All second-growth in the area. Very steep ~30% grade on most sides (both up and down) away from the old cut that this site is in.
Soil:
1-2" of mostly fir needle duff with hard packed rocky soil under. Composite sampled in 5 locations (center, 3 m North, East, South, and West.)
