Had another leader cut. There was Q. frainetto marked on the map—is it possible they grafted that on Q. bicolor and the graft failed?
Most large Acer at this site are x freemanii, with mature rubrum and saccharinum also present and differentiating between the driest and wettest spots.

A wild seedling, there is a bur oak planting across the street. Have not observed this species reproducing before.
