I am currently studying the federally endangered California endemic Suisun Thistle (Cirsium hydrophilum var. hydrophilum) -- in particular looking at dispersal dynamics among all taxa present in the tidal marsh complex in which it inhabits, and investigating what physical processes are limiting establishment/recruitment of the thistle. I am also involved in several other Cirsium-related projects -- looking at population genetics among both the Suisun Thistle and its close relative the Mount Tamalpais Thistle (Cirsium hydrophilum var. vaseyi), and studying evolutionary relationships among the California Serpentine Wetland Endemic block of Cirsium.

I also study Arctostaphylos (Manzanitas) and closely allied taxa within the Arbutoideae.
