I am a Professional Engineer with a Masters in Green and Environmental Engineering, but that is not what makes me a field naturalist.

I grew up with nature as my family camped consistently through my youth. As soon as digital cameras became a thing, I reconnected and started photographing everything within nature that I could. This started in 2003 in Ontario and continues to this day. I am on my 5th digital camera now and have well over 100,000 photos - predominantly butterflies from Ontario (2003-2010) and Saskatchewan (2011-current). I have studied butterflies intensively throughout this period so that I can fully understand the wonderful creatures I spent most of my free time observing, though I am finding myself paying attention to the plants and birds that live where I go and connect to nature as well so these will be well represented too.

Found iNaturalist in the summer of 2023 and have decided to try to place photos of every nature specimen I have photographed - I expect this will take a while but I'm proud to contribute to the natural awareness around me.

As I live in Saskatchewan (and grew up there too), I am hopeful that this site will attract more people from Saskatchewan into observing the natural spaces of that province. It seems that butterflies are not top of mind for most and that is too bad as there is a LOT of biodiversity to observe. I find it impressive that there is so much awareness within places such as Ontario where my first butterfly efforts took place and in Alberta, right next door but with considerably more attention to butterflies - so good on those who focus on those areas!
