I'm a professor of biology in the Lyman Briggs College and the Department of Entomology at Michigan State University. One of my main interests is in reconstructing the evolutionary history of flies in the genus Rhagoletis (Diptera: Tephritidae). These fruit-eating flies are highly host plant-specific, so finding host plants with active infestations is really important (and very challenging). I just recently became aware of the power of iNaturalist and am excited to use this valuable resource to build a network of friends/collectors/cooperators to determine the infestation status of some of the host plants used by flies in this genus that have been photographed and contributed to iNaturalist.
