This project seeks to document that native and introduced flora in cemeteries across Australia.
Land usage across the globe has changed dramatically over the last couple of centuries. Urbanisation, industrialisation and, agricultural development has boomed; however, this has lead to deforestation, and fragmentation of the original natural vegetation. The native vegetation is then forced to persist in semi-neglected sites or service corridors. Cemeteries are an example of a space, whether intentionally or unintentionally, that could hold significant biodiversity value through providing a refuge for native flora.
Hopefully, through documenting the species growing in cemeteries and churchyards across Australia we can truly understand and appreciate how important these modified spaces are for native biodiversity.
