The following project is intended to catalog, celebrate and enjoy the diversity of the Twin Peaks Area in San Francisco. Currently, there are several groups and agencies cooperating in managing the rare plants and animals within their habitats. We all believe that wise, recurring human stewardship of this area will maintain these resources in perpetuity.
We are particularly interested in occurrences of plants associated with the Mission Blue Butterfly - lupine spp. (host) and possible and known nectar plants (most wildflowers open in April). We like observers to record feeding evidence, found larvae, flying adults, and eggs if they are trained and have permission to do such work.
If you'd like to join us for a volunteer year at Mission Peak, specifically working on the Mission Blue Butterfly, please contact us at lech@goldenhour.org - our webpage is at www.goldenhour.org. Our "volunteer years" start in November.
This project is in collaboration with SF Rec and Parks, Liam O'Brien, and the US Fish and Wildlife Service. Additional funding from the Upjohn Foundation.
