Low-elevation bald (ca. 1200 ft) seep surrounded by oak-pine and spruce-fir forests. Cambrian schist is the bedrock, weathered into thin, sandy soil. Minimal signs of human disturbance except for moderate foot traffic on a path next to this plant. Associates include Pinus strobus, Juncus sp., Ilex mucronata, Deschampsia flexuosa, Aronia melanocarpa, Vaccinium angustifolia, and others.
