What a treat to see this so close up!
I went back the following morning to look for signs of the juvenile (https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/81659770) and, instead, found an adult (most likely a parent).
A very exciting find for me as I've seen at least one owl in this exact same location back in 2012. All last summer I heard a Great Horned Owl hooting from this direction (in relation to my house) and always vowed to go look for it, but always too sleepy - ha! And, I've had multiple sightings of a large predator bird flying through this specific area in the subsequent years. At least one was a Northern Goshawk, but then the other I wrote off as being a Red-tailed Hawk as I've often seen them flying overhead. For the most part, until proven otherwise I assume every large bird of prey is a RTH so as not to get my hopes up thinking that it's something a bit more unique ;)
