2016 Century Club! Three Challenges for 2017
2016 was our best year yet on Herps of Texas, we had five observers break the Century Club. Again, Connor Adams @connor22 took first place. He might have to take a sabbatical to South Africa before anyone can dislodge him from the top of the Texas leaderboard...........
For first place, Connor Adams @connor22 wins a Stump Ripper from Animal Equipment by Stoney LLC. Thank you Stoney for supporting the Herps of Texas Project!!
In addition, the Century Club will be receiving field guides to support their efforts, and possibly help them give Connor some competition? It is an impressive feat to top 100 species in a year, Congratulations to all five from 2016:

We will be tracking the Century Club again in 2017, how many species can you find?
In addition to the statewide challenge, we want to highlight the importance of county records. We have a lot of county level data gaps for common species. So we are highlighting county level listing in two ways, the County Big Year and the Cumulative County Big Year
The County Big Year, how many species can you find in a single county in 2017? In 2016 it was a tie between Romey and Timothy:
Romey Swanson, Brewster County, 29 Species
Timothy Johnson, Brazos County, 29 Species
The Best Cumulative County list is the sum of all the county species totals. Every time you document a Gulf Coast toad or a green anole in a new county, that counts as a new "County Species"! Here is a list of the top 15 HoTX observers in 2016 along with their "County Species" Total. Kenneth Bader @kucycads was the leader by far with 363 County Species!

Is there a regular monitoring or Amphibian Watch in Victoria or Victoria County? A master naturalist from Amarillo is moving south and interested in participating in a regular watch. Any information would be appreciated

There aren't any regular amphibian monitoring groups in Victor at this time, but if you are interested in starting a group, please let me know.
