@rfoster I do not understand this comment about "relationship".
Oh, sorry, I thought we spoke about this a few days ago. Perhaps I'm mistaken. At the bottom of the taxon details (top of this page) in the blue box you'll see "Relationship: Unknown" currently. This describes the relationship of the iNat name to the outside source. For plants this is POWO and the relationship will usually be a match (i.e. the iNat taxon name = the POWO name). To put in the details click on the "unknown" to open the relationship page, click on "add relationship"
(to get to this page https://www.inaturalist.org/taxon_framework_relationships/new?taxon_framework_id=68&taxon_id=926937 ) and then add the details of the outside source - taxon name and level, the parent and its level (usually species & genus respectively) and the url of the POWO taxon page.
Okay, I entered the information, and appear to have created a relationship deviation: https://www.inaturalist.org/taxon_framework_relationships/333697 Is this a problem or does it suggest I should do something within the swap itself to make it conform? The existing "swap to" taxon was a classed as a subspecies, not a variety within our framework.
I appreciate the step by step tutorial @rfoster.
You're very welcome @kitty12. I only twigged to this quite recently myself after reading a post by another curator bemoaning the fact that it was rarely being done when swaps were made. It can be a rather random path of discovery for curator, can't it?!
@kitty12 don't forget to put in the relationship on the output taxon, at a minimum.
